In recent years, large-scale international migration flows in Latin America have resulted in humanitarian crises and posed mid- and long-term challenges to governments and host populations. Given the unprecedented and unplanned demographic changes, there is sudden and ongoing pressure on resources, both at the borders or in urban areas.
As a result of their collaborative research, Andrés Cubillos from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá (Colombia), Báltica Cabieses from Universidad del Desarrollo (Chile) and Irene Torres will discuss their original findings related to health impacts on children, women and undocumented migrants in Chile; the tensions between an open border policy in countries with constitutional protection of the right to health such as Ecuador, and the limitations of health systems in protecting it; and the challenges and adaptations of heaths systems in the context of large-scale mobility in short periods across Colombia.
The event will be moderated by Anahí Urquiza, member of the Science Advisory Committee of the IAI, academic from Universidad de Chile and researcher at Centro de Ciencia del Clima y la Resiliencia Cr2.
